Character is not a birth right but rather the evidence of experiences that have shaped us into who we presently are. Like gold that must first be refined in the fire before it can be pure and beautiful, one must first go through the heat of the furnace before becoming pure and developing that winning character. Born in a city called Ibadan, west of Nigeria on the 18th of May, 1975 Victor Samuel Okon has endured trying times in the furnace and has developed to become one of the finest people the world has ever seen. The oldest of 5 children born to loving parents, Victor is a proven ‘champion’, labeled as such because anyone that has endured so much and can still maintain a positive attitude, a smile and more than that a deep desire to affect other people positively deserves to be called that.

Of all of his life’s experiences, he was very seriously affected by the loss of dear father in 1994 who passed away in a motor accident. “It was one of those things that totally altered my life. I realized that suddenly I was the one in charge. It definitely changed my perspective as a friend.” As expected with his tragedy, he adapted by making the necessary sacrifices to keep everything running smoothly. He understood that it would take more than his will and strength to hold it all together, so the next step in his life can be said to be logically expected. In 1995 he embraced the love of his savior and held on to his heavenly father for strength and vision. The one sacrifice that he didn’t make was giving up his deep passion for music. Blessed with astounding vocal ability, Victor found in the music an escape from the worries of life that tend to bring us down and burden us. Linked with his new relationship with his creator, he realized that this was more than just him, it was his purpose. He made the decision to pursue music as a career and with that zeal and focus he obtained a Bachelors degree in Music from the University of Nigeria.

His degree opened new doors for him as he pursued more growth in his career, not just as a singer but also as a producer. Serving faithfully in his church choir at Rockword Church in Port Harcourt, Victor was blessed to learn from another musical genius, Nnamdi “Busky” Echezuna. His grew in leaps and bounds as a producer and as is evidenced on the debut CD Introducing Malachi Records, he certainly possesses what it takes to lay down some masterpieces. With a degree Victor was able to push for bigger things, establishing E-Trax Productions, a production company that is well recognized around his home country for delivering some of the hottest sounds in almost every musical genre.

Victor partnered with long time friend Patrick Chike in 2003 to form the dynamic duo of E-Trax/Malachi Records. Patrick, a former member of Rockword Church where Victor stood out head and shoulders above everyone else in the choir had relocated with his family to the United States. “ I heard that he was starting a label and I just felt it in my spirit that it was right for us to work together. At the time he was looking for a talented producer and I was looking for an upright business man. To me, it was a match made in heaven” Victor says of the union.

There is a never ending list of Nigerian artists that have been blessed with the E-Trax production touch, but when it came time for the worldwide debut, Victor knew that this was indeed the very reason he was put on earth. Except for one song on the album (U Saved Me) Victor single handedly produced and mixed the entire album. His skills are mix engineer are quickly catching up to his skills as a producer just as he seems to have caught up with his incredible vocal abilities. Even though he didn’t do much singing on the album, no one can mistake the serenity of that heavenly voice in Away My Tears and Good 2 Me. Asked why he didn’t do more singing Victor explains “It’s really not about what I can do but more about what needs to be done. We have a group of people here that are all blessed differently and this album is out opportunity to show the world those different gifts. A big part of my gift is to present these artists properly, doing whatever is needed to get that job done. That’s my primary goal.”
